Glossary: Hazardous Energy
Any form of energy, such as electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, or thermal, that has the potential to cause injury to personnel or damage to equipment if unexpectedly released or started. LOTO procedures are specifically designed to control these energy types. (As defined within the scope of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147(b).)
